India beats Afghanistan by seven wickets

India wins a comprehensive 7 wicket victory against Afghanistan in the Twenty20 World Cup Group C match in St Lucia here on Saturday.

India 116-3 / off 14.5 overs

After electing to bat first, Afghanistan began with a good start as Noor Ali scored 50 off 48 balls. Though, it no longer last long in this tournament as India restricted them from 115/8 to chase the victory.

With the set target of 116 for victory India made gave a awesome performance and swiftly covers home with  over 5 overs to spare as the credit goes to Murali Vijay – who score (48) and Yuvraj Singh (23) who’s partnership of 55 helped India to recover after losing two earlier wickets. Read more »

India open World T20 campaign against Afghanistan

With an unheralded Afghanistan in their tournament-opener, India will have to play on the cautious note against Afghanistan to ensure a good start to the campaign in the World T20 here on Saturday.

This game will be a challenging part for India to chase for the victory against Afghanistan to be honored at an International level tournament

West Indies beat Ireland by 70 runs

West Indies blow a comprehensive victory with a 70-run massive hit to overtake Ireland in a Group D match at the Providence Stadium here Friday.

Man of the Match Darren Sammy gave an awesome performance as he managed to score 17-ball off 30 that helped the West Indies to tune in with a 138 for nine in 20 overs after stand-in skipper Dwayne Bravo. Though, Chris Gayle missed the opportunity as he was having a problem on his glutes.

Medium pacers Sammy (3/8) and Ravi Rampaul (3/17) – The duo shared six wickets to bowl out Ireland for 68 runs in just 16.4 overs.

Darren Sammy fill the place for Gayle as he didn’t want to disappoint his fans, which made him to flow on the move from an unsteady 93 for six. While, left arm spinner George Dockrell, gave an awesome shot with his three for 16 to turn down West Indies. Read more »

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets

Daniel Vettori and Nathan McCullum set the stage on fire by setting a record breaking 2 wickets victory over Sri Lanka in the opening tournament of this year Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean.
Mahela Jayewardene began on a slower pace as with wickets from which he secured a valuable half century which helped Sri Lanka reach 135-6 against New Zealand at the Providence Stadium.
The game was moving well but after losing two earlier wickets, Jayewardene and Dinesh Chandimal built a third wicket partnership of 59 to help Sri Lanka to recover when Tillakeratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara were dismissed cheaply.
After winning the toss and elected to bat first sri Lanka  was unable to prove better this time as the New Zealand slow blowers spark the game with a slow turning wicket. Read more »

David Warner compliment Sehwag

Australian batsman David Warner expressed his feeling for his Daredevils’ team-mate Virender Sehwag. He said, “Sehwag is the best Twenty20 batsman”.

“In terms of batsman in T20 it is hard to go past Sehwag when he gets going, but there are so many good players going around,” Fox Sports quoted Warner, as saying.

However, sehwag was the top list of run-scorers for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League season three. He gave a remarkable performance by scoring 346 runs at 25.42 from 14 games.

Unfortunately, he will no longer be a part of the game – Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies as he his shoulder is badly injured.

Warner says, Australia is a strong contender to win the tournament, and he reckons teams from the sub-continent, including India, will be the biggest dangers. Read more »

India takes on unheralded Afghanistan in T20 WC opener

As per the PTI, Up against an unheralded Afghanistan in their tournament-opener, India will have to guard against complacency to ensure a flying start to their campaign in the T20 cricket World Cup here tomorrow.

It has been observed that there is very little room left for errors in the slam-bang format of the game though India will be playing on a promising note. Since, India has to put all the effort to get an honor in the International level.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already warned his star-studded team not to underestimate Afghanistan.  However, teammate Yuvraj was also worried about the X-factor of their opponents, who have caught the imagination of the world over the last two years.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first

Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara has won the toss and elected to bat first game of the season this year at Twenty20 World Cup.

The Kiwis have left out Kyle Mills, Daniel Vettori indicated offspinner Nathan McCullum will open the innings on a slow turning wicket.
“We would have batted as well.

We need to restrict them and bat well later on. The warm up games were good. We have left Mills today. We may ask Nathan McCullum to open the bowling today as well.,” said Vettori.

Sri Lanka meanwhile have dropped Sanath Jayasuriya down to number six in the order and will open the batting with Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan.
