Australia wins a comprehensive victory against Sri Lanka by crushing 81 runs in the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals here on Sunday

Brief Score:

Australia: 168 for five in 20 overs. (C White 85 not out, M Hussey 39 not out; S Randiv 3/20, A Mathews 2/24).

Sri Lanka: 87 all out in 16.2 overs (T Dilshan 20; M Johnson 3/15)

Man-of-the-match: Cameron White

When electing to bat first, Australia was pretty slow as they were struggling out and managed to procure 67/5 at the end of 11 overs. This has made the game a little unstable but the duo’s partnership M.Hussey who managed to build 39 runs of 26 balls while C.White took 85 runs of 49 balls gave hopes for Australian team. This has the take game into a new level in which they sum up the total of 101 runs in just 54 balls.

However, Australia posted a superb inning by adding 101 runs in just 54 balls. The partnership between M.Hussey and C.White added an impressive 91runs in the last over of their innings.

Though, Spinner S.Randiv put the smile on Sri Lanka’s teams by taking three crucial wickets of Australian inning to put them on back foot.

Sri Lanka began a pretty good innings as with M.Jayawardne and S.Jayasurya but it did not last longer because Jayewardene soon moves out after producing 9 runs for 6 balls.

“When someone misses out, someone stands up,” White said. “In all facets of our game we are playing pretty well.”

We started off well but we missed one crucial catch. We were dismal with the bat. They grabbed this match from us. The stand between White and Michael Hussey put it beyond us,” Sangakkara said.
